LOCATIONS in the Hunter Valley and India KERALA: KNOWN AS GOD'S OWN COUNTRY AND DESCRIBED BY THE NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC TRAVELLER AS PARADISE FOUND

KOVALAM, KERALA

For two hours a day you will be treated in Dr George's Treatment Rooms at the Pappakutty Beach Resort situated on the famous Kovalam Lighthouse Beach boardwalk.

The Lighthouse Beach boardwalk is where you can go shopping for some beautiful Indian and Nepalese clothing, jewellery, shawls, pashminas, bags or visit a tailor to have something made for you.

Fishermen bring in the fish each day on the beach front, all joining together to sing and haul in their catch followed by the women who distribute it to the restaurants on the boardwalk for your dinner that night.

The catch is displayed out the front of each restaurant so you can choose your catch (and its hard to make a choice as everything is wonderful).

The food in Kovalam is wonderful

You will also experience some of the best and freshest food in the many local restaurants facing out to sea.

It is freshly cooked for you once you order and the produce is collected that day. You can request non-spicy or spicy food depending on your taste and Dr George's recommendation.

Some examples of prices are:
- whole snapper cooked in the tandoori ovens - approx $3.00

- a banana lassi (yoghurt drink) - $1.20

- a full meal with lobster, prawns, calamari, fish, vegetables & drinks for 2 people $26 in total

Kovalam - The Paradise of South India

Pristine white sandy ribbons are bordered by the azure waters of the Arabian Sea on one side, and lush, verdant tropical vegetation on the other side.

Welcome to Kovalam Beach, Kerala…

Nature's bounty. The word Kovalam, literally means a coconut grove. True to its name, Kovalam beach provides clusters of tall, lush green, nodding coconut trees, swaying in the salubrious sea breeze.

The jagged coastline traces swirling silhouettes, carving serene blue lagoons in some places. Rugged rock promontories jut out in defiance, a little further.

Whilst scooped out turquoise blue, shallow bays glisten in the sunlight.

Kovalam boasts of three crescent shaped beaches, and the shallow waters make these beaches a swimmer's delight.

In the spotlight
Kovalam is approximately 13 km from Trivandrum, which is also the nearest airport and railway station. It was the Maharaja of Travencore who first focused the spotlight on this charmingly beautiful beach, putting it on the world tourist map.

At first, this secluded beach attracted the hippies and the flower children, but today, Kovalam is an up-market holiday destination, offering a selection of world class resorts.

Light House Beach boasts of a tall light house and is abuzz with tourists, while Samudra Beach is quiet and peaceful.

Hawah Beach originally gained notoriety for being the first topless beach in India. It attracted a gaggle of tourists to see the nudists, as against the number of nudists themselves!

Poultices, herbs & oils
Ayurveda is synonymous with Kerala, and tourists throng to Kovalam for de-stressing, rejuvenation, regeneration, recuperation and therapeutic treatments.

Kovalam boasts of many specialized Ayurvedic resorts and spas which offer holistic healing. Savour the magic of relaxing Ayurvedic oil massages, herbal remedies and Yoga amidst serene settings.

Feel the warmth of herbal oils and drops of medicated milk, as they trickle down your forehead. Indulge in the Dhara treatment, succumb to the Panchkarma practices or rejuvenate with herbal oil massages and poultices. Have a go at Hatha yoga, Kriya yoga, or awaken your Kundalini!

Your trip to Kovalam would be incomplete without a tryst with Ayurveda and yoga!

Things to see & do
If sightseeing is up your street, you could consider visiting the Padmanabhaswamy temple, boasting of Dravidian style of architecture.

Spend a day picnicking at the tourist village or Veli Lagoon. It offers a wading pool, a waterfront park, a fishing village and water sports facilities. Courtallam and Aruvi waterfalls are ideal picnic spots.

If you'd like to feast your eyes on exquisite works of art, stop by at Sree Chitra Art Gallery, which plays host to original paintings by Raja Ravi Varma and Roerich.

It also has a vast collection of Indian miniatures, ranging from the Rajput to Tanjore schools.

See the royal Kowdiar Palace from the outside since visitors are not permitted to enter the precincts.

Visit the Peppara wild life sanctuary and let the lion in you emerge!

"Best location & hospitality”
Reviewed August 24, 2010 Trip Advisor

"We stayed for 14 nights in Nov. The hotel has a best location facing lighthouse beach. It is not noisy but within easy walking distance of beach, restaurants and anything else you need.

You do have to walk from car park as no direct vehicular access to the main parts of Kovalam. There is a trolley to fetch cases if required although it is quite easy to wheel cases on the walkway.

On arrival, my reserved room waited for me, and we got fresh pineapple juice on arrival time. The balcony overlooked to the light house beach, Nice to sit on mornings and evenings.

The pool was very nice and cleaned regularly, this is the best attraction of this hotel. and this is the big pool in kovalam. The rooms are very well, T.V, fridge,A/C, Internet everything is perfect. Hot water only in the tap. There have two restaurant, one in the ground flour and other in the upstairs, we can enjoy the sea view and wifi.

Staff are very friendly. we can get all information in the reception about kerala destinations. This was very pleasant.

Upstairs balcony tables are nice in the evening but great for a late afternoon beer as the sun goes down. Every day clean the room, cleaning is very good.sheets and towels changed every day. Sheets and towels have seen better days but are usable on day 1 after cleaning.

My opinion is pappukutty hotel is the comfortable hotel in kovalam."
